
Classical guitarist and composer
Rostyslav Holubov, a distinguished classical guitarist and composer, was born in 1994 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. From an early age, he demonstrated an innate passion for music, embarking on his artistic journey at the age of ten. His initial studies at a local music school provided a strong foundation, where his talent for classical guitar began to flourish.
Rostyslav’s musical development deepened during his time at Kharkiv Music College, where he honed his skills under the mentorship of exceptional teachers. It was here that his love for both classical and flamenco guitar styles took root. This passion propelled him to continue his studies at the Kharkiv National University of Arts, where he studied under the esteemed Professor Volodymyr Dotsenko. As a student, Rostyslav’s dedication and talent transcended borders. Through the prestigious Erasmus+ program, he expanded his artistic horizons, studying under the acclaimed artist and professor Margarita Escarpa in Vigo, Spain. This international experience enriched his technical prowess and deepened his interpretative sensibilities, preparing him for greater artistic achievements.



In 2023, Rostyslav’s pursuit of excellence led him to the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen, Germany, where he began a Master’s degree in Performance under the guidance of the celebrated artist and professor Tomasz Zawierucha. His studies at Folkwang also include composition, where he is mentored by Professor Matthias Schlothfeldt, further nurturing his creative versatility. Rostyslav’s work Clouds. Forced., composed under the mentorship of Professor Matthias Schlothfeldt, holds special significance. It was created as part of the project ‘Striving for Greatness – 150 Years of Villa Hügel – 150 Projects for the Ruhr Area’ and is dedicated to his hometown of Kharkiv, reflecting the city’s resilience during times of war.
Rostyslav is not only a virtuoso guitarist but also an accomplished composer. His works are a testament to his ability to blend classical traditions with personal expression. Notable compositions include La Despedida, Clouds. Forced., Happiness Exists, Road to the Dream, Waiting for Summer, Fantasy on the Theme of Ukrainian Folksong “Oh, in the Cherry Orchard”, and Folk Lullaby “The Dream Walks by the Windows”. These pieces reflect his deep connection to Ukrainian cultural heritage and his desire to innovate within the classical guitar repertoire. His compositions are performed worldwide by esteemed artists such as Tomasz Zawierucha, Stephanie Jones, Irene Kalisvaart and many others.

As a performer, Rostyslav Holubov has achieved international acclaim, earning top prizes in prestigious competitions. Among his most remarkable achievements are his victory at the 2023 Nürtingen International Guitar Competition in Germany and the Folkwang Guitar Prize in 2024, further solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in the world of classical guitar. Rostyslav’s artistry extends beyond the competition stage; he is an engaging performer who has captivated audiences in Ukraine, Germany, and beyond. As an innovator, Rostyslav had also contributed to art therapy projects, using music as a medium for healing. His masterful technique, combined with a profound emotional connection to his music, has earned him recognition as one of the finest classical guitarists of his generation. With an unwavering commitment to his craft, Rostyslav continues to evolve as both a musician and composer, inspiring audiences worldwide with his artistry, innovation, and dedication to the rich tradition of classical guitar.
